My grandson's first steps

|
SIX PRECIOUS STEPS
My grandson took six steps today
what’s so special about that, you say?
Well, for him this was a major feat
You see, he has a disability to beat
He is so special in so many ways
And the things we take for granted may
take him more time to complete
than another child who doesn’t have
a disability to beat
As he came toward me on wobbly feet
my heart lept with joy and pride
He smiled and almost fell, yet
never gave up his quest for stride
Tomorrow is another day
and more steps will come his way
He will overcome so many things
that we don’t think twice about in daily meanderings
For him to walk is finally here,
he’s been
trying for well over a year
So try and understand when those you see
Don’t walk, or talk or run like me
Be patient, kind and realize
the world is a little different in their eyes
A smile from you can make their day
They are special in EVERY way
